This tournament was supposed to be an opposite field event, but because the WGC-HSBC Champions was canceled, it retains full status on the PGA Tour and will offer a Masters berth as well as 500 FedEx Cup points. The second is that this is actually a low-key important event on the fall slate for almost everyone in this field. The first is that Bermuda is great scenery that offers the occasional benefit of nasty, windy weather that shows off the skills of Tour players. So, why watch? Well there are a few reasons. It included some nice names to start - Matt Fitzpatrick, Patrick Reed and Mito Pereira - but overall is one of the least-talented fields - according to the Official World Golf Rankings - of the entire season. This week’s field is, well, very interesting. Pendrith held his lead after Round 3 heading into Sunday’s action. But better conditions on Friday allowed Taylor Pendrith to hit five consecutive birdies on his way to going 11 under to take the lead after Round 1. Windy conditions Thursday kept scores high in Round 1 with Brandon Hagy and Chad Ramey tying for the lead at 6-under 65. That has not lead to a totally normal travel schedule if you played in all three of those events (or if you plan to play next week in Mexico at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
Another week of PGA Tour golf brings us another country for the PGA Tour - from Las Vegas two consecutive weeks to Bermuda via Japan.
